Sulfuric Acid - Manufacturing

Sulfuric acid is manufactured in 3 step processes. (01). Molted sulfur (impurities filtered off) burned in oxygen to give sulfur dioxide (SO2) - Temperature 140-150 deg C. Air is scrubbed to remove solid particles and dried to remove moisture before contacting with molten sulfur in the furnace
(02). The SO2 is then reacted with oxygen in the presence of V2O5 catalyst to give SO3. Temperature in the catalytic reactor can be controlled by extracting heat to produce steam and utilizing them in the process. Heat exchanger design should accommodate this.
(03). SO3 is absorbed into counter current flow of H2SO4 in absorption tower to give more H2SO4
